Matching the right wine with the right food adds to the whole enjoyment of the festive meal – Rob, our Corney & Barrow wine guru has made some cracking suggestions:
Aperitif – Champagne Delamotte (Brut NV) with both its opulence and precision has to be first on the drinks list come the 25th, a lively way to start the day and fantastic with a cooked breakfast, or, indeed, alone!
Starter – The Gavi di Gavi was a tremendous hit at our Festive Day Tasting and it’s easy to see why! Lovely soft white flower aromas and a mineral freshness make this a ‘must-have’ for a somewhat lighter entrée to the hedonism that naturally follows!
Turkey – Again, the Corney & Barrow St-Emilion Grand Cru, from the wonderful Chateau Bellevue-Figeac, showed beautifully at the Tasting Day and makes for the perfect pair to a ‘full on’ Christmas day feast. The cherries, berries and violets in this wine may play over the flavours of the dish while the fine, well-integrated tannins get to work and break things down for you on the palate. Another must for Rob!
Christmas Pudding – Ruby Port as always is a fabulous idea here, tonnes of sugar and exuberant red fruit in the wine which makes it a match right enough for the dessert to end all desserts! The Corney & Barrow expression is made by the Van Zeller family, famed for their outstanding work at Qunita do Noval and Quinta Vale Donna Maria respectively. Enjoy!
