We’ve discovered another local gem for you – this time it is English sparkling wine and sparkling cider.
Four Acres Estates is a family run vineyard, orchard and winery producing some really rather good English sparkling wine as well as a delicious country cider pressed from traditional apple varieties that are all grown and bottled in Little Hadham.
The Blanc de Blanc a 2015 vintage made with chardonnay grapes is dry with essence of green apples and citrus, whilst the Rose, also 2015 vintage is from pinot noir and pinot meunier grapes with essence of strawberries and stone fruit.
The dry sparkling cider is made from nine varieties of cider apples grown in their orchard of 200 trees; it is aged in whisky barrels that gives a distinctive strong peaty flavour. A good accompaniment to smoked salmon and cheese.
Platon Loizou, the owner will be with us at our festive tasting day on 1 December, do stop and try a sample and hear more about this family business – and how at harvest time the villagers all muck in to help– the art for the signage is done by his wife.
